Modalverben: 'should'
"Should" ist ein Modalverb. Es wird unterschiedlich verwendet (Konditional, Ratschlag, Verpflichtung oder Notwendigkeit...).
Als Modalverb hat es folgende Eigenschaften:
- Es folgt ein Verb im Infinitiv ohne "to", außer be able to, need to, have to und ought to.
- Die dritte Person Singular hat im present simple kein -s.
- Bei einer Frage oder einer Verneinung muss do/does nicht hinzugefügt werden.
- Es gibt keine zusammengesetzten Zeiten oder Verlaufsformen.
- Es hat keinen Infinitiv.
Bejahende Form
Subjekt + should + Verb im Infinitiv ohne "to" + ...
Die Konjugation ist bei allen Personen gleich.

Verwendung von "should"
1 Als Hinweis auf eine moralische Verpflichtung oder eine Verpflichtung in abgeschwächter Form oder um einen Ratschlag zu erteilen. Es ist weniger stark als "must" und "have to".
I should study more.
Ich sollte mehr lernen.
He should be at school before 9.00.
Er sollte vor 09:00 Uhr in der Schule sein.
You should go to the doctor.
Du solltest zum Arzt gehen.
Es kann verwendet werden, um auszudrücken, dass etwas in der Zukunft getan werden muss oder etwas in der Vergangenheit hätte getan werden müssen und dies nicht geschehen ist (hier wird dann should + have + past participle verwendet).
You should go to the doctor tomorrow.
Du solltest morgen zum Arzt gehen (Futur).
I should have studied more.
Ich hätte mehr lernen sollen (Vergangenheit).
2 Um eine Annahme oder eine Schlussfolgerung auszudrücken.
It shouldn't be very expensive.
Es sollte nicht zu teuer sein.
He left two hours ago. He should be at home now.
Er ist vor zwei Stunden gegangen. Er sollte jetzt schon zu Hause sein.
Dies kann im Futur oder in der Vergangenheit ausgedrückt werden ( should + have + past participle).
She should arrive next week.
Sie sollte nächste Woche eintreffen.
She should have arrived last week.
Sie hätte letzte Woche eintreffen sollen.
3 Für Vorschläge in Fragesätzen (weniger kategorisch als 'shall').

Sollte ich zur Polizei gehen?
4 Als Hilfsverb bei Konditionalsätzen in der 1. Person Singular und Plural (I, we), wobei 'would' allerdings häufiger verwendet wird.
I should go if I had more time.
Ich würde hingehen, wenn ich mehr Zeit hätte.
We should invite you if we had enough money.
Wir würden dich einladen, wenn wir genug Geld hätten.
