Über Enda

I grew up in Ireland and always had a strong interest in literature, film, art, and philosophy. I completed my bachelors degree in Philosophy and French in Cork, and immediately emigrated to the UK to continue my studies, achieving an MA in Philosophy from UCL a year later. I was very fortunate to attend lectures and tutorials both in Cork and at UCL with some of the greatest and most inspiring philosophical thinkers in the world. After my masters degree, I decided to take a break from academic philosophy and consider alternative career paths. Although I loved reading and writing philosophy, and always will, I was not content to pursue a career path producing obscure, scholastic papers in journals that few people are ever likely to read. After some time away, I therefore decided to renew my passion for art and was accepted to the prestigious MFA in Fine Art programme at Goldsmiths. I thrived in this environment, finding a new mode to express the philosophical and theoretical ideas with greater freedom than I had experienced in academia. Since graduating, I have worked both as both an artist and academic researcher, publishing theoretical and literary texts, as well as exhibiting my work publicly in galleries. I have given talks at international symposia and taken part in numerous art residencies, where I have sought to develop my professional art and theoretical career in tandem. I am currently working towards applying to PhD programmes for the 23-24 academic year.

Please note, whilst I am now learning German I don't feel confident enough in my current level to teach you in German. Therefore all classes are given in English, my apologies for any disappointment caused by this, if you have specific questions concerning accessibility please feel free to reach out to me.

I am offering tutorials in Critical Philosophy, Philosophy of Art, Contemporary Art Criticism, and Contemporary Literary and Film Criticism. Please see my other advertisement for Fine Art tutorials if you are interested in developing your art practice. Whilst I am happy to teach anyone who believes they can learn something from me, my tutorials are primarily aimed towards three groups of people: 1. Undergraduate and Masters students in Philosophy seeking additional tutoring to help with coursework; 2. High School students seeking help with philosophy or literature courses; 3. Individuals with no specific professional or educational objectives, but who wish to study these topics out of personal interest and would like additional help and a structured curriculum to do so.

I hold a BA and an MA in Philosophy, from the University College Cork, Ireland, and University College London, respectively. I also hold an MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London. I have provided tutoring in Philosophy, Art, and Literary Criticism both formally and informally for 5 years. In my teaching methods, I especially emphasise reinforcement learning and tailored lesson plans to encourage personal growth and development with a specialised focus on your particular needs. I consider teaching to be one of the highest vocations a human being can undertake, and do my best to treat all of my students with the level of care, concern, and attention they deserve. In my personal experience, the greatest teachers are those who take a genuine interest in their students, and this is something I always strive to do with anybody who choses to take my classes. The most rewarding thing for me is seeing my students succeed in their ambitions and gain confidence in their particular field or subject. My tutorials are always developed according to your specific requirements, and are always private, one-to-one sessions so that you will have my full attention.

My philosophical training is broad and draws from influences in both the analytic and continental tradition. I teach both the history of philosophy, with special emphasis on Plato, German Idealism from Kant to Hegel, Early 19th Continental Philosophy (Schopenhauer and Kierkegaard), and 20th century continental and analytic philosophy, including Marx, Foucault, Deleuze, Adorno, Marcuse, and the Frankfurt School, amongst others. I also have specialised training in contemporary issues in Philosophy of Mind the Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence, Philosophy and Epistemology of Science, and Philosophy of Language.

My literary tutorials offer a specialised focus on both literary composition and textual analysis. I can proof read and offer critical feedback and resources to literary composition in English. I offer resources and critical seminars on literature and film, with a special emphasis on 19th century Romantic literature, Literature and Film in Russia and the Soviet Period, Irish literature, and Middle Eastern Literature. I also examine the relationship between philosophical questions and concerns and literature, situating literary and artistic works in relation to intellectual histories of their particular periods.
