  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Everything started back in high school, right here in Los Angeles. I was in drama class, and I noticed that some of the international students were struggling with their scripts. Their acting was strong, but they felt insecure about their accents and delivery. So I started helping them practice after class.

We worked on pronunciation, rhythm, and confidence. Nothing formal at first, just repetition and encouragement. Over time, their speech became clearer and more natural, and you could actually see their confidence grow.

Our teacher noticed. She happened to be an actress herself, and one day she told me she had seen tremendous improvement in their accents and overall confidence. She even said she was going to tell her agent to call me. That moment changed everything. That’s when I began working as a dialect, or accent, coach. So in many ways, this journey really started all the way back in high school.

Private tutoring felt natural to me because I love working closely with people and seeing real transformation happen.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach English with a strong focus on pronunciation, fluency, and the American accent. But my work goes beyond just sounds. I also work heavily on confidence, communication, and clarity. My goal is not just for students to pronounce words correctly, but to express themselves naturally and confidently.

We work on vowel sounds, consonants, stress patterns, intonation, rhythm, linking, and connected speech. These are the elements that make English sound natural and confident. At the same time, we focus on how to organize thoughts clearly, speak with authority, and communicate effectively in real situations.

I especially love working on the musicality of English, how rhythm and stress shape meaning and influence perception. I also enjoy helping students prepare for real life situations such as job interviews, presentations, meetings, storytelling, and everyday conversations.

If there’s something I enjoy slightly less, it would be grammar taught in isolation. Grammar is important, but I prefer teaching it through conversation and practical communication rather than memorization and drills.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I’ve had teachers who truly inspired me. The ones who made the biggest impact weren’t just knowledgeable, they were present and attentive. They cared about how their students felt, not just how they performed.

That stayed with me. I try to create that same supportive environment where students feel safe to make mistakes, experiment, and grow without fear of judgment.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

    Patience, empathy, and deep listening.

A good tutor doesn’t just correct mistakes. They understand why the mistake is happening. They know how to explain the same concept in different ways depending on the student. They adapt. They encourage.

Most importantly, they genuinely care about the student’s progress and confidence, not just finishing a lesson plan.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

once worked with a professional who avoided speaking during meetings because she felt insecure about her accent. Technically, her English was excellent, but mentally, she held herself back.

We spent months working on rhythm, intonation, clarity, and flow. More importantly, we worked on confidence. One day, she told me she led a meeting at work and actually enjoyed it. She said it was the first time she didn’t overthink every word.

That moment reminded me that this work is about much more than pronunciation. It’s about empowerment and helping someone feel comfortable using their voice.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One of the biggest challenges is helping students unlearn habits that have been reinforced for years. Pronunciation is physical. It’s muscle memory. Changing it requires consistency and patience.

Another challenge is shifting the mindset from “I need to sound perfect” to “I need to communicate clearly and confidently.” That internal pressure can sometimes be harder to overcome than the technical aspects of speech.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My true passion is helping people feel confident when they speak. Accent and fluency are simply the tools I use to achieve that.

I’m fascinated by the psychology of communication, how tone, rhythm, and delivery shape how others perceive us. I also genuinely enjoy studying the mechanics of sound, how small tongue or lip adjustments can create a completely different result.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I combine technical knowledge of pronunciation with practical, real-world communication training. My students don’t just learn sounds, they learn how to apply them in interviews, presentations, meetings, and daily conversations.

I personalize every lesson, track progress carefully, and focus heavily on confidence building. I’m deeply invested in my students’ growth.

When they succeed, I feel it personally. That commitment, care, and passion are what truly set me apart.
