Über Yi Jen
Born and raised in Taiwan, I had eight years teaching experience as a private tutor in Chinese, science and maths from elementary to high school levels (Cambridge IGCSE). I also offered Chinese tutoring / cultural advice to foreign students of International Chinese Language Program at National Taiwan University, where I received my Bachelor's degree.
After three years working in the health care industry, I moved to Europe to pursue my study in Neuroscience in 2016, and have completed my Master's degree in the Charité - the joint institute of HU and FU, Berlin. Having lived and worked in several different countries (Taiwan, France and Germany), I thus demonstrate high cultural awareness.
I am currently living in Berlin and am a freelancer in science communication and book translation. I am looking forward to helping more people who are interested in Chinese language and culture!

Before starting the class, I firstly discuss with the students and adjust my teaching methods and learning materials based on their needs. I would like to create a learning environment in which we both feel comfortable and efficient to learn.
For kids (6-12 years old) with zero or basic Chinese level, I focus on speaking and reading combined with materials such as picture books, songs, animation and activities (field trips/museums/sports...etc.). It is essential for children to learn through play along with abundant audio-visual stimuli.
For adults with basic or certain knowledge in Chinese, I would like to create a Chinese-speaking environment and focus on the language skills the students prefer to improve. I believe it is important to have the learning process with which the cultural awareness is gradually developed during language learning. Thus I would love to also bring in cultural discussions/activities into my teaching (any kind of culture-related topics, such as food, politics, film, music...etc.).
I would like to blur the boundary of teacher-student relationship and instead to create a more relaxing, equal and friendly learning atmosphere.
