Über Anders
I am active internationally as a performer and musicologist. I have performed at festivals and venues in Europe and North America (including the Utrecht Early Music Festival, Bloomington Early Music Festival and Schwetzingen Festival). I have numerous recordings available on CD and streaming platforms. Alongside my performing work, I am completing a PhD in Musicology at the University of Tübingen, focusing on historical performance, rhetoric, and expressive acting in music. My special interests include Beethoven, the Mannheim school, and the history of the early piano. This combination of high-level performance and research informs my teaching: lessons connect practical work at the keyboard with a deeper understanding of style, sound, and expression.

I am a Canadian fortepianist, harpsichordist, and pianist based in the Tübingen–Rottenburg area, specialising in historical performance on period instruments. I offer piano, harpsichord, and fortepiano lessons in English for adults of all levels – from absolute beginners and “restarters” to advanced and professional musicians. What are the lessons like? My teaching focuses on rhetorical, expressive, stylistically informed playing rather than just “getting the notes right.” I am a specialist in historically faithful performance practice from 1700–1850 – from Baroque to high Romantic – and I help students understand how this music likely sounded on its original instruments. Lessons can include: - Piano (modern) – building a relaxed, healthy technique, beautiful sound, and convincing interpretation of classical and Romantic repertoire. - Harpsichord & fortepiano – touch, articulation, ornamentation, and stylistic phrasing on historical keyboards. - Historical style & rhetoric – how to shape phrases, use timing, and create contrast in line with 18th and early 19th-century ideas of expression. - Theory, Improvisation, & historical musical composition – harmony, form, and stylistic analysis connected directly to the pieces you play. - Practice strategies – how to practise efficiently as a busy adult, avoid tension, and overcome performance anxiety. We can work on single pieces you love, build a coherent programme, or follow a structured path (for example: Baroque dance suites, Classical sonatas, early Romantic character pieces). Chamber music & ensemble coaching I also offer chamber music coaching for small groups (duos, trios, etc.), with or without me as pianist: - Sonatas for piano & violin, cello, or wind instruments - Lieder accompaniment and coaching for singers - Trio sonatas, continuo playing, and early Classical chamber works - Historically informed rehearsal techniques (articulation, balance, tempo, rhetoric) This can be ideal for advanced amateurs, students, or semi-professional ensembles who want to deepen their stylistic understanding and communication.
