Über Stephanie
I am a Native English Speaker and English Language Trainer from California (USA). I have been living in Europe for over a decade, sharing my expertise in writing, speaking, marketing; and other business, scientific, and creative endeavours.
I received my degree in Biology from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2005. While studying, I worked as a Teacher's Assistant in organic chemistry, biochemistry, creative writing, and mathematics. My natural talent for communications would serve me later as a language specialist.
I have worked in laboratory settings, including that of a neurological research study under the auspices of the National Institutes of Health; in business settings, as creative marketing director and implementation manager for the sales of physical therapy devices in America; and as marketing pioneer and brand designer for a successful music project in Austria.
I studied under Non-Violent Communication pioneer, Marshall Rosenberg in San Francisco, and worked as “Peace Education Coordinator“ for the non-profit organization, Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, focusing on the design and implementation of curriculum in Peace Education and Conflict Resolution for a broad range of students; spanning from Kindergarden to High school.
I have worked in the fields of sales (introducing products to the market and building up sales teams for the distribution of medical and therapeutic devices); product development, market research & implementation, and project management (in the USA and later in Austria for a start-up company producing a new therapeutic device); human resources (Cirque Du Soleil tour in Vienna); and organization of events and performance productions.
I have more than ten-years experience teaching English-as-a-second-language, and have taught courses for both groups and individuals as well as seminars on a variety of topics.

What I consider when teaching and how I teach:
1. Enjoyment of the learning process. When learning a language, the world is vast; there are so many topics to dive into in order to broaden your vocabulary and perspective. I find the most effective way to learn languages is within real-world contexts and delving into topics which truly interest you. It should be useful, practical and fun!
2. As my background is in Biology/Biochemistry and Neuroscience, I know that our ability to learn is greatly enhanced when the brain is relaxed and the pre-frontal cortex is activated. I like to begin my classes with a very simple breathing exercise to ensure we are beginning the learning process in a healthy nervous system state.
3. Humans are multifaceted/multidimensional beings, and learning languages needs to meet our multifunctionality. I use a variety of methods when I teach, including: story-telling, post-story discussions using pertinent vocabulary, encouraging students to work on a creative project and/or interest-specific presentation, questions and answers, reading & writing assignments, conversation on various specific topics, and a variety of games.
4. I also provide extra tips for enhancing the learning process depending on the interests of my students (yoga, breathing, meditation, movement, laughter exercises, making video recordings or audio recordings of oneself to practice speaking or presenting, etc.)
