Über Thomas
I am a writer and teacher from Ireland. I have been teaching for over thirteen years, most of it at universities. I have taught in China, Belgium, and Germany, but most of my many years of experience come from teaching at a technical university here in Berlin, where I currently live. I have written three books, unpublished, a trilogy, which I am now preparing for publication.
I studied English Literature and History at the University of Limerick. And I am a CELTA - University of Cambridge accredited - trained English teacher. I have taught for over 10 years at a university in Berlin, English for International Media and Computer Science, as well as Creative Writing, and a large variety of language schools and private clients. At the university, I teach groups of 20/30 people and we follow a set plan and course outline over 16 weeks, conceptualized by me. But with private clients, they often prefer to improvise and let the topics emerge organically.

What I offer to my clients is 100% awareness. It is one of my principles, to be absolutely present with the person in front of me. To listen to them and respond to their needs spontaneously as they occur. I am a master of improvisation and the art of conversation. I have prepared so many classes and topics over the years that I can improvise very freely and trust myself to ask the right questions at the right moment and to explore the topic in depth. Every client's needs are different. Some people prefer improvisation, while for others (especially at universities or with large groups) it is better to plan your dive and dive your plan. I am comfortable with both styles. The sessions with me are easygoing and carefree, but we often go into deep things. I enjoy the social connection that teaching brings; philosophical discussions with bright and creative minds are a source of inspiration for me. I am creative and spontaneous, relaxed and disciplined.
