Über Ana
Since the age of 8, English has been a passion and an integral part of my life. Growing up with the language, I developed not only fluency but also a deep understanding of its nuances, culminating in earning my Cambridge diplomas, which attest to my proficiency and dedication.
I believe that learning a new language opens doors to new cultures and opportunities. My own experience as a multilingual learner – I'm fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, have knowledge of French, and some German – gives me a unique perspective. I understand the challenges and joys of the learning process, which allows me to be a more empathetic and effective teacher.
My passion is to guide my students through this journey, providing the tools and confidence needed to communicate effectively in English. Whether for professional purposes, academic pursuits, travel, or simply for personal development, I'm here to help you achieve your linguistic goals

My teaching philosophy centers on creating an immersive, supportive, and highly engaging environment where students feel confident to experiment with the language. I believe in fostering not just linguistic skills, but also the confidence to use English effectively in real-world scenarios.
Teaching Techniques and Methods:
My teaching is primarily communicative, meaning the focus is on practical language use. I integrate a variety of techniques to cater to different learning styles and keep lessons dynamic:
* Task-Based Learning: We often work on specific tasks, like planning a trip, conducting an interview, or preparing a presentation, which naturally prompts the use of target vocabulary and grammar.
* Conversational Practice: I provide ample opportunities for dialogue, role-plays, and discussions.
* Interactive Activities: I use a mix of games, debates, problem-solving scenarios, and simulations to make learning enjoyable and memorable. This helps internalize new concepts and vocabulary.
* Authentic Materials: We utilize real-world materials like news articles, podcasts, short videos, song lyrics, and authentic dialogues. This exposes students to natural English and relevant cultural contexts.
* Error Correction & Feedback: Feedback is a continuous process.
* Personalized Learning Paths: Every student is unique, so I adapt my materials and approach based on individual needs, goals, and learning paces.
Typical Course of a Lesson
While flexible, a typical lesson generally follows a structured yet adaptable flow to ensure comprehensive learning:
* Warm-up & Review (5-10 minutes): We start with a brief, engaging activity or discussion related to the previous lesson or a current event. This helps students activate their English and review prior knowledge.
* Introduction of New Material (15-20 minutes): I present new vocabulary, grammar structures, or functional language points using clear explanations, examples, and visual aids. This often involves a short text, audio, or video.
* Controlled Practice (15-20 minutes): Students engage in guided exercises, drills, or short role-plays to practice the new material in a controlled environment. This builds accuracy and confidence.
* Freer Practice & Production (20-30 minutes): This is where students apply the new language in more open-ended, communicative tasks. This could be a discussion, a debate, a longer role-play, or a problem-solving activity. This stage prioritizes fluency and real-world application.
* Wrap-up & Feedback (5-10 minutes): We summarize the key learning points, clarify any remaining questions, and I provide overall feedback on performance, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. Homework (optional) is assigned based on the student's goals.
My Special Features as a Teacher
My approach is distinguished by several key elements:
* Strong Emphasis on Practical Application: While grammar and vocabulary are crucial, my ultimate goal is for students to use English confidently and effectively in real-life situations. Every lesson has a clear communicative outcome.
* Patience and Encouragement: I create a no-judgment zone where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities. My supportive demeanor encourages students to take risks and speak without fear.
* Culturally Relevant Context: Living in Switzerland, I often incorporate local contexts and common communication scenarios relevant to daily life, work, or travel here, making the language more immediately applicable.
* Resourcefulness: I continuously seek out and adapt fresh, engaging materials to keep lessons interesting and relevant to current trends and student interests.
* Adaptive Teaching: I don't follow a rigid one-size-fits-all curriculum. I'm adept at adjusting my pace, materials, and methods on the fly to meet the specific needs and learning styles of each individual student.
Who Are the Lessons Aimed At?
My lessons are designed for a diverse range of learners, from various backgrounds and with differing objectives. I typically teach:
* Levels: From Beginner (A1) to B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). I conduct a short assessment at the beginning to accurately place students.
* Specific Goals:
* General English: For those looking to improve overall fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills for everyday situations.
* Business English: Professionals needing to improve their English for work, including presentations, meetings, emails, and networking.
* Conversation Practice: Individuals who already have some English knowledge but want to boost their speaking confidence and fluency.
In essence, if you're motivated to learn English and ready to engage, I'm here to guide you to your goals.
