Über Jenna
My name is Jenna, I am 18 years old, and I have just finished my gap year. I have always had a strong passion for mathematics and have spent a lot of time helping others understand it better. Over the years, I have tutored many of my friends in the IBDP, as well as my siblings who completed the Matura.
When I was younger, I often felt that maths tutoring was too passive—teachers tended to talk at me rather than help me truly understand the subject. Over time, I realised that real learning happens when you are actively involved and willing to put in the effort yourself. However, the right support is still essential in making that process effective and less overwhelming.
Through tutoring people around me, I have helped students improve from lower grades to achieving 1s and 2s in Matura mathematics and 5s and 6s in the IBDP. This experience has shown me that with the right guidance, clear explanations, and active engagement, every student can make real progress and gain confidence in maths.
My goal as a tutor is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, actively participate in the learning process, and build a deeper understanding of the subject rather than just memorising methods

I believe the best way to learn is through active participation, not simply having someone talk at you.
My teaching approach focuses on understanding each student’s difficulties and adapting the lesson accordingly—whether that involves struggling with equations or not fully grasping a concept.
My methods include:
- Diagnostic understanding: Identifying what the student is struggling with and how they learn best
- Guided discovery: Students infer rules or concepts through structured examples
- Differentiated instruction: Adapting teaching methods to meet varied learning needs
- Task-based learning: Connecting mathematical concepts to real-life applications and problem-solving situations to make them more meaningful and easier to understand
- Visual aids and multimedia: Using videos, diagrams, and interactive tools to support learning
- Formative assessment: Low-pressure checks such as short quizzes, discussions, and feedback sessions to reinforce learning and improve long-term performance
Typical course of a lesson
A standard lesson is structured as follows:
- Prior preparation (before the lesson): Students send me the topics they would like to study and the areas they are struggling with 1–2 days in advance. This allows me to prepare a tailored lesson that addresses their specific needs.
- Warm-up (5–10 min): Quick review of previous material or a short starter activity
- Introduction (10 min): Presentation of the new topic with clear explanations and examples
- Practice (20–25 min): Guided exercises with support and feedback
- Production (10–15 min): Independent or pair work applying the new knowledge
- Feedback & correction (5–10 min): Review of answers and clarification of mistakes
- Wrap-up (5 min): Summary of key points and assignment of homework or follow-up tasks, possibly including a short test
